Marlow Valley Lodge History

25th July 1980

Twenty eight Freemasons from different Lodges attended the first Founders meeting on the 25th July 1980 held at the Village Hall in Marlow Bottom, Marlow, and Buckinghamshire, to discuss and review the reasons for considering the formation of a new Lodge. At this meeting it was unanimously agreed that W Bro Tom Butler be elected the First Master and W Bro Brian Standring be elected Founding Secretary.

Collegium Vallis Amicum

Subsequent meetings were held to elect the other officers and define their duties, the name and style of the New Lodge, the Regalia and Equipment required, and agree the By-Laws. Various Lodge names were proposed but the Founders agreed to Marlow Valley Lodge as most Founders lived in Marlow Bottom which is in a Valley. The Motto for the Lodge which appears on the Lodge Badge was agreed to be “Collegium Vallis Amicum” -“The Loving Fraternity of the Valley”

Sidney John Slade

Many Social Events and Charity Raising Functions were held during this time as well as after the Consecration and the Brethren with their wives and partners got to know each other very well. On the 14th of May 1981 the Lodge was Consecrated and the First Regular Meeting of the Marlow Valley Lodge was held nearly one week later on Friday 22nd May 1981. At this meeting our First Initiate, Sidney John Slade was welcomed into the Lodge.

At the Consecration over one hundred Brethren attended the Ceremony and Banquet.

Burns Night

Friday 18:00 UTC · Hosted by Marlow Valley Lodge

A Burns supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns, the author of many a Scots poem. The suppers are normally held on or near the poet's birthday, 25 January, known as Burns Night. However, in principle, celebrations may be held at any other time of the year.

Our Meetings

Monday 18:00 UTC · Hosted by Marlow Valley Lodge

There are good meetings and there are bad meetings. Bad meetings drone on forever, you never seem to get to the point, and you leave wondering why you were even present. Effective ones leave you energized and feeling that you've really accomplished something.
